Trees and Other Poems edition by Joyce Kilmer Reference eBooks
I first heard of Joyce Kilmer when I was about 13, when I encountered his poem,"Trees", in an collection of 20th century poetry. At the time, I knew nothing of Kilmer, so I asked about him. I heard that he was a British soldier, a bachelor who wrote poetry in the early years of the 20th century. For some reason, I didn't look into him until I found this book. The depth of his"Old Poets" and (of course) "Trees" encouraged me, as a young poet, to remember why I fell in love with poetry to begin with. And, by the way, I am proud to name him as a fellow American, who served his country and his wife and 5 children to the last. I am glad to find some one who shares my views, for the most part, and enjoyed this edition immensely. Now, to find a good hard-cover copy.:/ P.S Check out his essays. They are humorous, and some are very thought provoking.Product details

Trees and Other Poems edition by Joyce Kilmer Reference eBooks Reviews
This volume contains the excellent Trees poem. So it is definitely a recommended read, although I did not like the other poems. A bio of Kilmer would probably be a good read.
Joyce Kilmer, an American Catholic poet who fought in WWI, is a creative master of rhyme. This thin paperback is a digital copy of a book of his poems originally published in the early 20th century. Many of the poems mention God and saints, and one is dedicated to a Jesuit priest, but most of these references are non-sectarian in nature. Kilmer captures many of the sights, sounds, and feelings of early 20th century life in the United States. His most famous poem, "Trees," is worth the book alone. His couplet in this poem pointing out the futility of his poems in comparison to the beauty of a tree made by God is particularly clever. You'll find many of these poems online for free, but this is a nice cheap little reprint if you prefer hardcopy stuff.
If you haven't read Kilmer, check him out. His work is poetry written for love of poetry. Kilmer isn't the profoundest poet out there, but he's a very pleasant reading companion, and his lighthearted style is appealing.
I've always loved Joyce Kilmer poems especially Trees and wanted to have a copy to share his fabulous work with my granddaughter.
I only first knew him for the "Trees" and was so moved by his prose I had to know more of his poems, writings and life. So, I found this book after looking him up and devouring all that I could find on his short and gallant life. I have read the reviews that lament the lack of certain poems in books purchased and I would encourage readers to keep looking and buying these worthwhile treasures that can greatly enhance a poetry collection.
I was very glad that a selection of Kilmer's poems was available, and I could get a much fuller picture of the poet's writings who is famous and unfortunately infamous among academics for the poem "Trees" which is iconic like poems by Longfellow, also frowned on by the so-called elite. Well, it is what sticks in the mind and heart that matters, and the fact that "Trees" and other poems by Joyce Kilmer are not included in two prominent anthologies of Twentieth Century American Poetry is criminal.
I tried this book because I wanted to read the poem "Trees" that I kind of remembered from my childhood. There was much more to the poem than I had thought and I also enjoyed reading the other poems. Many of them I had not read before and I found them fascinating. They are older poems and they painted vivid pictures in my mind of the things the authors wrote about. Well worth taking the time to read. I am going to memorize the poem of the title "Trees" so that I can enjoy it over and over again.
I've always loved the poem about trees that Joyce Kilmer wrote. I had to read it for school and it started my love for poetry. Over the years, life and responsibilities made me so busy that I stopped reading poems. Now that I am retired, I downloaded this book of poems by Joyce Kilmer and have once again fallen in love with poetry. His poems are not only beautiful and inspiring, but they reach deep down to my soul and make me feel happy and Blessed.
