Leah Holden, a military wife running from her problems, packs up her girls and moves to the Philippines in the hopes of salvaging her broken marriage to Mike. But living in such close proximity to so many enlisted men, Leah finds herself attracted to one who understands all of her needs. This opens the doorway to potential heartache and devastation.Fay Guilian had me from the very first line! Her descriptions of the people and places in the Philippines made me feel like I was right there. For instance, when Leah and her girls, stepped off the plane; "A leaden veil of warmth covered my face." and ". . . the misty vapors rose from the cracks, seeping, as if volcanic fire was sizzling beneath the surface." The author has such a beautiful way of delivering an image in just the right words.

The Sympathy of All Things edition by Fay Guilian Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
This book is very rare. It captures what *real life* looks like. Although it isn't as glamorous as the novels that portray a real life fairy tale it was much more enjoyable to me.
Leah, a military wife, is in the middle of a loveless marriage. She follows her husband to the Philippines knowing that her marriage is all but over, but hoping a new adventure will give them a new start.
Unfortunately no amount of new scenery can erase her problems. She soon finds herself in temptation central.
I loved it and would recommend it to any women who wants to read a REAL romance.
A co-worker recommended this book and I loved it. It is a story about choices, sacrifices, love, and loss. Highly recommend.
Perhaps the books story is too close to home and resonates with my own heart ache... And thus the book is well written but the end leaves me with an un required feeling of emptiness... Not a feeling that is comfortable.
I couldn't put the book down and was finished with Leah's story quickly! At some point, we all have wondered what to do in a situation where love is questioned and this story is no different. Well written and touching. This story is great! I am in love!
Free books are always hit or miss but this one was a hit for sure. While some aspects were somewhat unbelievable, the overall storytelling and the emotion within the pages of this book meant that I was unable to put it down. I ended up getting the kindle app on my phone just so I could finish reading it on the go.
Beautifully written, an emotional, gripping story from beginning to end.
'The Sympathy of All Things' is about Leah who moves to the Philppines to join her husband with her children.
When Leah is in the Philipppines, she meets the man of her dreams.
Stuck in a loveless marriage, Leah is forced to choose between life with her husband and children or her true love.
This is a heart wrenching story that kept me on tenterhooks until the very end!
When this book opened with a quote from my main man, Carl Jung, which is where the title comes from, I knew I would like this story. Add to the fact that it's set in the Philippines, and you have a book that I already had a thing for. It helps that it's well written, too. I'm not really into love stories, but the author, Fay Gullian, does something that all great authors do. She raises the stakes consistently by making the reader themselves decide if the protagonist, Leah Holden, is making the right decisions. The author doesn't judge her character, and she let's the audience judge her, which takes a startling amount of bravery. I'm not quite sure I like Leah, but that may just be me. If I were a female, I'm sure I could relate more.
The book feels a bit long at times, but that's my only real complaint with it. If you liked The Notebook, which this story kind of reminded me of since the main problems are often emotional ones, then you'll probably like this.
